Eye Street Massage has been in practice for 12 years. Our team of therapists, all DC-licensed, provide a variety of bodywork modalities. Our expertise allows us to address the common aches and pains that occur in high-stress and desk/computer-oriented lives. Our depth of experience allows us to be of service to people living with chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, MS, Parkinson's and a host of other conditions. Finally, the maturity of the team permits us to work with more energetic/spiritual aspects of bodywork, including bringing universal energy into your field, opening and aligning your chakras. And, of course, we can help you reach a deep state of relaxation, giving your nervous system, your cares, and your woes a "time out." |

Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue massage is designed to reach the deep portions of thick muscles, specifically the individual muscle fibers. Using deep muscle compression and friction along the grain of the muscle, its purpose is to unstick the fibers of the muscles and release both toxins and deeply held patterns of tension. This technique is very effective in releasing chronic pain patterns held in the muscles and is our most popular form of massage. |

Swedish Massage
uses a system of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints. Used primarily for a full-body session, it promotes general relaxation, improves circulation and range of motion, and relieves muscle tension. |

Sports Massage Therapy
is classified into two categories: maintenance and event. Maintenance massage is an ongoing series of regularly scheduled sessions designed to help the athlete reach optimal performance through injury-free training. Event massage takes place before, during, or after competition to assist the athlete with preparation, performance and recovery. Pre-event massage is used as a supplement to an athlete's warm-up to enhance circulation and reduce excess muscle and mental tension prior to competition. Post-event massage is geared toward reducing the trauma that occurs after the cessation of vigorous exercises. |

Neuromuscular Therapy
(a.k.a. Myotherapy or Trigger-point therapy) applies concentrated finger pressure to "trigger points"- painful irritated areas in muscles- in order to break the cycle of spasm and pain. Trigger points are often caused by repetitive strain on a muscle or a trauma that the muscle received i.e. whiplash, sports injuries, etc. This therapy involves communication between the client and Therapist to help locate the trigger point and any referred pain that is associated with them. |

Pre-natal Massage
Pregnancy places strong demands on a woman's body and is a time for the body to be nurtured and pampered. We use a blend of Swedish Massage and Myofascial techniques to not only relieve the tensions and aches caused by the extra weight and shift in the center of gravity to the body, but it reduces fatigue, and enhances energy. |

|
Myofascial release/Connective Tissue Massage
as the name implies, releases the chronic patters of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on contracted areas, either following or going across the grain of muscles, tendon and fascia. It can be used for specific work or full-body. |

Reflexology
Reflexology is the art and science of working specific areas on the hands, feet, and ears to relax and relieve stress and pain in corresponding areas of the body and improve circulation. Reflexology is not massage, which rubs the skin and muscles. Reflexology is subcutaneous, affecting areas below the skin with compression by the practitioner's thumb, which activates the nervous system and affects endorphin secretions of the body, relieving pain and improving the function of all body systems. |

Thai Massage
Thai massage is an interactive manipulation of the body using passive stretching and gentle pressure along energy lines. This ancient form of massage dates back to the time of Buddha and looks like a cross between Shiastu, Acupressure, and Yoga. Practitioners apply pressure along meridian lines with their thumbs, hands, and feet to stimulate the movement of energy in the body, and in addition, move and stretch their clients in Yoga-like poses to free muscular and joint tension. Designed to be both relaxing and stimulating, Thai massage improves flexibility, reduces tension, stimulates internal organs, and balances the body's energy system. |

Craniosacral Therapy
CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the function of a physiological body called the craniosacral system. The craniosacral system is comprised of the brain, spinal cord, central nervous system, and the membranes, bones, and cerebrospinal fluid that house and protect them. Using soft touch, the aim of the practitioner is to help release restrictions in the craniosacral system, therefore improving function of the central nervous system and general well being. |

Hot Stone Massage
Developed in the midwest for use in health spas, this technique uses stones that have been heated. The stones have a high basalt content which enable them to hold there heat for a long period of time. These stones are positioned on the body and some are gently moved about with light pressure being exerted on the warm stones. In our Hot Stone treatments we use 100% Jojoba oil with added essential oils. This massage technique is very relaxing and excellent at warming and loosening tight overworked muscles. |

Energy Healing
Energy Healing has been in existence for thousands of years in traditional cultures and is gaining prevalence in the West. What affects you physically and emotionally also affects your energy field. Changes and imbalance can be detected and cleared by a skilled energy healer before you get sick. A healing clears and charges the energy field, removes energetic blocks that lead to disease and enhances the body?s natural healing capability. In a healing session, the client lies fully clothed on a massage table as the practitioner lays their hands gently on the body and works with the energy in and around the body. Energy healing is not intended to replace traditional healthcare and treatments. It is a complementary modality that supports medical treatment or a personal wellness plan. |

Reiki
Reiki is a type of healing art with Japanese roots that is applied through a series of hand positions corresponding with energy centers in the body while lying down and fully clothed. Reiki is based on the belief that a "life force energy" flows through all of us providing pathways to connect with our own healing energy. Reiki treats the whole person including the body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects including deep relaxation as well as feelings of peace and security. |
